Wired’s got a cool video showing how a startup team built custom semi-transparent speakers using 3D printing technology and then mashed them up with special LED lighting. The sound and light interact with one another in really interesting ways. What’s more, the lighting can be manipulated (marketers, read “personalized”) by the non-technical person using things like smartphone control software. Skip forward to :50 to see it in action. One can imagine tons of applications in the experiential space; from interactive retail exhibits to group engagement in the exhibition or conference space.
